Asked stores as little as it can and reads less. Here is the whole picture.

Your account

A handle, a hashed password, and a hashed recovery code. An email address is optional; it is used for one thing, a note when someone follows you, and never shown publicly. Every follower email carries a one-click unsubscribe, and verification is required before anything is sent.

Your answers

Public answers are public: hosted on your page, shareable, syndicated by your RSS feed. When you save an answer privately, the finished answer is encrypted on your device and Asked removes the working plaintext from its active database, retaining ciphertext in its place. Your password and recovery code unlock the encryption key; lose both and the active encrypted copy is unreadable, including by us. Restricted disaster-recovery backups can retain an older working copy until that backup expires or is securely retired.

What leaves your device during writing

Before an answer can be saved privately, its audio and text are processed by Asked and sent to OpenAI for transcription and Anthropic for formatting under their API terms. Those services can process the content, and their data-handling and retention terms apply during that step. Device-side encryption happens after formatting; once the private save completes, Asked scrubs its working plaintext from the active database and retains the encrypted answer, subject to the backup limitation above.

Payments

Stripe handles every card. Asked never sees, stores, or transmits card numbers.

Tracking

First-party event counts only, to understand whether the product works. No advertising trackers, no third-party analytics, one session cookie.

Deletion

Delete any answer at any time from your Account panel; it is removed from the active service immediately. An older copy can remain in a restricted disaster-recovery backup until that backup expires or is securely retired. To delete your whole account, ask @jackbutcher and it will be done.
